one weekend in August...

So, the weekend was great here in central Ohio-
still blazing hot and humid, but that's Ohio for you in August!
Anyway, Friday evening,
Sweetie and I met up with some friends
at the "World's Biggest Little Fair"
And check out who else was there!:
The Budweiser team was hitched and parading around the fair grounds.
Cool, huh?
Then, Saturday, a friend and I headed
on a driving trek up toward northern Ohio
and visited the Outdoor Quilt Festival in Wellington, Ohio
here are a few pics:
The wagon ride was an extra if you wanted to go out
to see the elk and hear the history of the farm.
In the pic above, this is the original barn with horse stalls.  Some of the inside stalls even had quilts hanging in them.  Aren't the quilts all great?  I liked them all, but the one on the far left above the door, that one inspired me,
 so here's a close-up:
The inspiration was to keep using my one and a half inch square scraps as leaders/enders!
Maybe someday I'll have enough little squares sewn together to make one of these puppies!
These old quilts were hanging inside a barn, maybe a feed room,
but were also a couple of my favorites:
Here's a close-up of the one on the left:
pieced using shirtings and then hand embroidery stitching in red:
Very, very inspiring, isn't it?
It was a great morning.
Then we headed to a couple of quilt shops
that we had not been to before -
that was just a little dangerous!

Sunday afternoon,
I got to work at the local quilt shop.
The "Wool Crazy" group met.
We are all still stitching away on our projects;
I shared some green "army blanket" holly leaves with the group.
We are coming along, slowly, but surely.

Then, to finish the evening, Sweetie and I went to a movie with friends.
Whew!!!
Back to work tomorrow at the LQS!
Isn't life great???

Wacky Wool Wednesday

So...
last night I hosted our monthly gathering
of the crazy, woolly ladies --
as opposed to those "woolly hookers".
There were NINE of us.
Although the temperature was Africa Hot,
these nine gals ventured out,
most of them from the far side of town,
and brought their woolly projects!
Did I take any pictures?
No.
Did I have a great time?
Yes.
Did we accomplish much?
Don't really know, doesn't really matter.
Consensus was we had a grand, woolly time.
Here's an after-the-group-left shot of my corner of the table...
I started A Primitive Garden.
Yes, I needed to start another woolly project!
(a couple of the gals in this monthly group are doing A Primitive Garden as a block of the month from Primitive Gatherings; I am using their start as my push to work on a block a month also.  You know, a little push in the behind?!).
Notice in the background,
I have my "baby wash tub" full of wool scraps.
(It's only holding wool scraps
until called into service for it's intended use,
in case my daughter  anyone was wondering.)
Also in the background is the corner of my "Wool Crazy" project.
And a bag of goodies from The Good Wives.
There was an earlier in the day field trip:
The Good Wives field trip
that some of us were able to do before the whole woolly group met.
Dangerous, Good Wives Company.
Dangerous, but great.
Now, I really should go do some quilting...
I'll check to see what the temp is in the Sun room/quilting room.
If it's too hot, I'll have to work on my wool!

trouble and wool

I have worked on a couple of ongoing projects recently...
Yay for me!  Working on something that is already started!
That is a rather novel idea...
Wool Crazy is one of the ongoing projects:
I added the flag and the pear "make-do" sitting on a spool of thread.
Not a lot accomplished, but a little here and there.

Then, remember this book:
From this point on, this book should be known as The Troublemaker...
Notice the "stuff" around the book??
Yep, while I was playing in the wool bins for my Wool Crazy,
out jumped some Blue Wool.
Then the white and yellow wool followed their cousin, Blue.
Pretty soon,
you guessed it,
there was a little kit calling to be cut out!
And right after that, there was a needle in my hand, a thimble on my finger, and some silk thread and scissors on the table next to me!

Isn't it just so cute?
Troublemaker!
And I made YOU promise to not let me start something else!!!

But really, stitching.
Think of all the trouble I didn't get in while I was doing this!
That is my story, I'm sticking with it!

Happy Stitching to you today!

Self-imposed retreat

I'm off to see sew the wizzard  this weekend,
this wonderful weekend of fun!!!

A self-imposed retreat...
though there is really no imposition.  No imposition at all.
It's a little sew-in ...
A friend offered her home,
an hour and a half drive away...
away from ringing phones, laundry, cleaning, you know, stuff.
Heading toward:
comaraderie, food, solidarity, food, commonality, laughs, and laughs and laughs.
machine - check
wool and floss - check check
three projects in progress - check check check
over night bag - check
my food contribution:
beef-barley soup & veggie-dill bread - check check
dark chocolate - CHECK CHECK CHECK

I received the floss I ordered from Pumpkin Patch Primitives - It was exactly what I ordered and more!!!  The colors are perfect for the Wool Crazy project that is going along with me this weekend.
I had also asked Brenda at PPP for a brighter red - and she sent me this -  It's "Buckeye Scarlett",
perfect for an Ohio girl who needed a bright red!!! I love it and will have to order more, as I have plans - I have a design in red work to stitch!

It kind of feels like I am going to play hookie.

I don't know what that hookie would be from...
but how fast can I pack up my stuff and get outta' Dodge?

I'm off to see sew the wizzard this weekend,
this wonderful weekend of fun...
.....because, because, because, because, because,
because of the wonderful quilting hooplas.....
